No such thing as a small twitter campaign – big numbers from small intentions_

We had a very simple idea to make a little splash for World Backup Day – offer a year’s backup for a very low price.  Almost a loss leader, this would benefit us long term if people renewed at the full price plus boost our profile.

A couple of little tweets and a facebook post made sure that lots of people around Whitstable would know more about the service we offer plus hopefully they would benefit from a bargain offer. A nice little twitter campaign.

Except there’s no such thing as a little twitter campaign.

The trouble with a good offer is that it doesn’t stay quiet. It ends up being posted on hotukdeals.com or similar – which generates a lot of interest.

As you can see from this little screenshot from our Google Analytics, something big happened:

In a 48 hour period we received more than 4,000 unique visitors to the site, we used more bandwidth in 24 hours than the whole of the rest of the month put together.

We had more than 10 times more orders than expected and the last few days have been very hectic thanks to that. We could have just turned off the offer when things got mad, but when we post something we intend to stick by it.

Things are calming down now – looking forward to getting some sleep and resting my fingers

But for all you social media naysayers – it really does work!
