Stereo Part 1_

I have started work on replacing the stereo. It took me a while to work out how to remove the old one so here are the tips…

Locate your nuts

1) Pull off the knobs
2) Undo the nut revealed (see photo above)
3) Undo screw in armrest compartment
4) Undo screws on gear knob gaiter
5) Undo screws in stero console
6) Pull console apart and enjoy chaos

Just take everything apart

Fitting is the reverse of removal, or something like that.

Actually, car electricals are one area that I particularly enjoy. So my real top tips are:

1) Solder connections (even when crimping on spade terminals)
2) Use junction (chocolate) blocks when fitting stereos, car kits etc.
3) Don’t stress old wiring – fit relays and a new feed from the battery.

Relax wiring with a Relay

So now I have a nice fresh, fused feed from the battery to the console, with a relay to provide more juice switched by the ignition key.

Relay: £2.70
Total… £2,549.44
